Workshops
Orthodox Christian Iconography
Do I need any previous experience?
Although some artistic experience can be helpful it is not required. Each step in the process is simplified and demonstrated not to over challenge the average person.

What can I expect to learn?
While the mediums have changed over the centuries the basic technique has remained the same. Using acrylic paint and gold leaf on gessoed wood panels you will learn how to make an icon start to finish. In addition, the purpose, history, theology and various styles of iconography will be discussed including Russian, Greek, Romanian and Coptic.

What should I bring to class?
A humble spirit, a prayerful attitude and a desire to please God are all that is required.

What if I miss a class?
For workshops on consecutive Saturdays it is essential to attend at least 4 classes. For Thursday thru Sunday workshops you will need to attend all sessions.

How can my parish host a workshop?
To schedule a workshop at your parish, please contact me with dates, location and include your phone number.

"Often the state of the person painting an icon and a
desire to serve God are of greater significance than
artistic skill."

St. John Maximovich

"The Inconceivable is conceived in the womb of a Virgin;
the Unmeasurable becomes three cubits high; the Un-
qualifiable acquires a quality; the Undefinable stands up,
sits down and lies down; He who is everywhere is put into a crib;
He who is above time gradually reaches age twelve; He who is
formless appears with the shape of a man and Incorporeal enters
into a body...Therefore, the same is describable and indescribable".
